PRESS STATEMENT

STORY PUBLISHED ON MYJOYONLINE.COM BY AUSTIN BRAKO POWERS CAPTIONED "SOME RESIDENTS OF WEIJA-GBAWE CONSTITUENCY UNHAPPY WITH PERFORMANCE OF NPP MP"  WAS PUBLISHED OUT OF MISCHIEF - SAYS COALITION OF YOUTH AGAINST PROPAGANDA (CYAP)

The Weija Gbawe Constituency branch of the Coalition of Youth Against Propaganda (CYAP) file this communique to debunk claims made in a story published on Myjoyonline.com on Monday 26th September, 2016 at 9:09:25pm by Austin Brako Powers captioned. The story captioned "Some residents of Weija-Gbawe Constituency unhappy with performance of NPP MP" Was done out of malicious intention by the journalist in question.

The story which further states that  residents are unimpressed by the performance of the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Rosemond  Comfort Abrah simply because they feel she has done very little to improve their situation.

We however, wish to state unequivocally that the views of about three NDC sympathizers who were interviewed by the journalist in Mallam junction cannot represent the views of all residents. We maintain our view, that the journalist carried the story out of mischief and believed the said journalist was compromised to play that mischief.

The Coalition of Youth Against Propaganda (CYAP)  wishes to inform all constituents and the general public to disregard the said story published on myjoyonline.com

Also, the picture of Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Weija Gbawe Constituency used by the Journalist for the same story is meant to portray her to constituents and the general public as a violent person for which she is not. In case the story is not related to her in any way.

We wish to set the record straight on  statements made by Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Weija Gbawe Constituency on Joy news on Monday 26th September, 2016  that she is the liaison who has brought infrastructural development to the Constituency.

This claim by the NDC Parliamentary Candidate is not true and therefore should be taken with a pinch of salt. Parliamentary aspirants are not development agents, therefore cannot liase with government to bring infrastructural development.

Therefore if she says she has brought infrastructural development to the Constituency, then she is not being truthful to herself and the good people of Weija Gbawe Constituency.

CYAP wishes to bring to the notice of constituents  and the general public that, all infrastructural development in the form of roads and drains are Assembly's projects and not an individual's projects.

The  infrastructural projects which are currently on going in the constituency were initiated by the Municipal Assembly led by the Municipal Chief Executive.

It is also on record that all infrastructural projects which are being carried out by the Assembly have been captured in the Assembly's budget stating clearly the construction firm in charge and the source of funds clearly stated.

The said roads and drains projects in the constituency are financed out of funds obtained from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by the NDC government. Therefore an individual cannot make claim of such infrasteuctural projects.

Also, the resurfaced asphalt roads in the constituency was not lobbied by Obuobia Darko-Opoku as made to seem. The resurfaced roads from Mallam junction to Gbawe township and from Weija junction through Oblogo to Weija  township were done by Urban Roads in conjunction with Ga South Municipal Assembly.

The NPP Member of Parliament, Hon. Rosemond Comfort Abrah is sidelined by the NDC and the Municipal Chief Executive of the Assembly in the discharge of her core mandate to cast a bad impression about her for Constituents to see the said MP as a failure. This does not augur well in our  democratic dispensation  and also in this era of modernisation.

The Municipal Chief Executive and the NDC have denied Hon. Rosemond Comfort Abrah from all public events or gathering organised by the Assembly. It can be recalled that the Municipal Assembly celebrated its 8th Anniversary on 30th August, 2016, while  the sitting MP was not invited. Obuobia Darko-Opoku, an NDC was fully invited as Parliamentary Candidate for Weija Gbawe Constituency. The event which should have been an event for all constituents became an NDC event.

Also, the NPP MP was not invited to attend the 6th march Independence Day anniversary celebration held this year at the Gbawe Cluster of Schools. However, the Parliamentary Candidate on the ticket of the NDC was invited to the said independence anniversary celebration and delivered a speech. This attitude of the NDC in the constituency is a cause to worry.

Finally, the Coalition of Youth Against Propaganda (CYAP) wishes to state that  in spite of all the frustration caused by the Municipal Assembly and the NDC, Hon. Rosemond Abrah has done a lot for the constituency in terms of roads, drains, employment, education, health and several other areas.
Vote for Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah to continue the good work.

Thank you.
